Merion Golf Club, West Course

The Merion Golf Club, West Course is a par 70 regulation golf course with 18 championship holes. It is set about three blocks west of the famous Merion Golf Club, East Course. It is located on and run by the privately owned Merion Golf Club, just outside Philadelphia. The Merion Golf Club, West Course was designed in May of 1914.

Measuring an estimated 6,000 yards from the back tees, the West Course is sizeably the easier course at Merion Golf Club. Like the, East Course it too was designed by Hugh Wilson. It is fitting for the regular play of less skilled members. But like the East course, the West Course at Merion Golf Course uses regular flags, red on the front nine and orange on the back nine.

The fairway at Merion Golf Club, West Course is embedded with perennial ryegrass. The primary rough is composed mostly of Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and tall fescue. The greens on the West course contain about equal amounts of creeping bentgrass and annual bluegrass.
