Merion Golf Club, East Course

The Merion Golf Club, East Course is set in suburban Haverford just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the Delaware County, USA. It is one of two Merion Golf Club courses. Merion is a very exclusive golf club. It is rich in history and tradition. Merion GC’s launch can be traced far back as 1896.

Merion Golf Club boasts 36 holes in its two golf courses. Namely, the West Course and the East Course. The West Course is the petite and much easier of the two golf course layouts at this club. Merion Golf Club, East Course however is very difficult and more sophisticated. It is one of few world class project designs by golf course architect Hugh Irvine Wilson.

The East Course at Merion Golf Club is well fortified by punishing modern Scottish style bunkers. Merion Golf Club, East Course is highly ranked and one of the best golf courses in the United States of America. It is maintained to almost championship conditions every day. Another unique feature of the East Course at Merion is the use of wicker baskets (valued at over $1 000 each) in place of the usual standard flags. Merion Golf Club, East Course is the only golf course in the world that does not have to use the USGA standard flags during any USGA competition.

Since Merion Golf Club is a private establishment, visitors and non-members are only allowed to golf on certain days and or by invitation. For more information, golfers can visit http://www.meriongolfclub.com/Club-Information.aspx.
