On the US PGA Tour, the American Matt Kuchar was victorious at the Players Championship. In his first win since 2010 when he clinched the Barclay's Open title, Kuchar demonstrated the type of consistent play that has seen him carding consistent top-10 finishes in the 2012 season.

Sunday's victory was proof of the fact that the champion has ironed out his golf game and is ready to compete at the very top of the Tour rankings. With 25 top-ten finishes since the 2010 season, Kuchar is second only to Luke Donald in terms of consistent play. Golf fans should keep an eye on this talented player as he continues his ascent on the US PGA Tour.

In Europe, the Madeira Islands Open was won by local favourite Ricardo Santos of Portugal. In an historic win, Santos became the first Portuguese golfer to win a European Tour event in his home country when he beat Magnus Carlsson by two strokes to lift the trophy.

Sunday's final round, which saw Santos in the lead with a comfortable back nine victory, was also historic. In addition to being the first Portuguese player to win the tournament, the champion also scored the lowest final round in the history of the tournament. This double victory will provide a great confidence boost to Santos, who made his European Tour debut this season.

The Champions Tour is in recess this week as some of golf's greatest veteran players prepare to face off in the Senior PGA Championship which will tee off on May 24th. As the champions compete at Benton Harbor, Michigan, golf fans will be treated to a display of masterful golf which can only be delivered by the collection of former major winners and seasoned Tour champions who will be taking part in this prestigious event.
