World Golf Results

On the US PGA Tour, former world number one Tiger Woods broke a title drought stretching back to 2009 when he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Sunday.

Sunday's final round at the Bay Hill golf course in Florida saw Woods carding a 70 to finish 13-under-par for the tournament. The champion's disposition matched the sunny Florida spring weather as he finished 5 strokes ahead of Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell.

For ardent fans of Tiger Woods, Sunday's victory marks a turning point in their golfing hero's career. As Woods approached the final green, the celebratory atmosphere was reminiscent of the former world number one's glory days when he stood unopposed at the top of the world rankings. Having weathered the emotional distress of a scandalous public divorce and nagging injuries, Tiger Woods is re-emerging as a definite wild card in the 2012 season.

The European Tour travelled to Morocco last week for the Trophee Hassan which was won by Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey. After an initially rocky start which put him nine strokes off the lead after the first round, Hoey regained his composure and treated fans to a spectacular comeback which culminated in a three-shot victory over Ireland's Damien McGrane on Sunday.

The Trophee Hassan is Hoey's fourth career victory on the European Tour. He is now in contention for this year's Ryder Cup and is currently ranked in the top 15 on the European Tour's Race to Dubai. Golf fans can expect many more great performances from this talented player.

In ladies golf, the top-ranked Taiwanese player Yani Tseng carded a back-to-back victory when she won the Kia Classic in Carlsbad, California.

In a commanding victory over Korea's Sun Yung Yoo, Tseng demonstrated her precision short game with a number of impressive chips and putts seeing her to victory.
