On the US PGA Tour, Bubba Watson held his nerve on Sunday to clinch a touch-and-go victory on the back nine. As the final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship unfolded in Norton, Massachusetts, Watson made a strong early start before dropping three shots early in the back nine.

As fans braced themselves for an upset on the leader board, a pack of competitors including the Australians Jason Day and Adam Scott saw an opportunity for victory. In the end however, Watson prevailed with a birdie at the 17th that saw him eke out a one-stroke victory over his closest rivals.

In Europe, an elated Thomas Bjorn scored another victory just a week after winning at Gleneagles when he lifted the trophy at the European Masters in Switzerland. In a dynamite final round that saw him carding nine birdies and an eagle, Bjorn set the course alight with his mix of power and precision. Shooting a final round score of 62, the Dane seemed elated as he made his final putt to clinch the title.

Germany’s Martin Kaymer, a regular contender for world number one, was Bjorn’s closest contender in the final round. However, after 18 holes on Sunday the talented German champion was four strokes behind Bjorn and among one of the first to congratulate him on an almost perfect victory.

On the Ladies European Tour, an astounding surprise victory saw Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall surge to victory at the UNIQA Ladies Open in Austria. The 22-year old rookie golfer took fans and fellow-players by surprise when she erased a seven-stroke deficit to seize the title on Sunday. Hedwall had made a fair start to the tournament in the first two rounds, but was not among the contenders for the title until Sunday, when her fantastic performance assured her victory.
