The Blue Monster Course at Doral Golf Resort, Miami

Last week the WGC-Cadillac Championship was hosted at the Blue Monster Course – one of five golf courses at Doral Golf Resort in Miami, Florida.

With year-round perfect golf weather, the Doral’s location in Miami provides the ideal setting for the entertaining and challenging courses that make up the resort’s golf offering. Of the five courses at the Doral Resort, the iconic Blue Monster Course stands out for its challenging holes that have made it a favourite with pros and low-handicap amateurs alike.

A Dick Wilson design, the Blue Monster lives up to its name with a total length of 7,125 yards as measured from the tournament tees. The course features lengthy fairways, a host of tricky bunkers which are placed in strategic locations around the course, and an abundance of Bermuda rough - these features combine to make the Blue Monster a challenging but rewarding course.

The Blue Monster course features many unique and highly challenging holes that are designed to test the mettle of low-handicap players. Golfers who are keen for a rewarding challenge may choose to take on the Blue Monster as guests at Doral, but visitors should note that the course will be renovated between April and December 2013.

The resort was recently acquired by entrepreneur Donald Trump and will be undergoing a full makeover during the course of this year, with the new design promising to breathe new life into the Monster as the course prepares to position itself as one of America’s most prominent golf venues.

The signature 18th hole, which features an impressive fountain, is likely to be left unchanged following the renovations by golf course architect Gil Hanse. This hole has been ranked in the world top 100 by GOLF Magazine and serves as the crowning glory of the Blue Monster course – providing golfers with a picturesque ending to a highly challenging round of golf.
