Player Profile - Adam Scott
This week’s player profile highlights the career of 2011 World Golf Champion Adam Scott. Born in 1980 in the Australian city of Adelaide, Scott developed an interest in golf during his years at school. After taking several golf-related subjects at high school, the young Scott decided to pursue a career in professional golf.
After graduating high school, Scott travelled to the United States where he studied briefly at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 2001 the professional golf circuit was calling, and Scott began playing on the European Tour in that year. In his first full year as a professional golfer, he won the co-sanctioned Alfred Dunhill Championship held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Following this initial victory, Scott showed golf fans around the world that he could weather the storms of competing on the European Tour. In 2002, his second year as a professional golfer, he won two more tournaments – the Qatar Masters and Scottish PGA Championship.
In 2003, Scott continued his success on the European Tour when he won the Scandinavian Masters. Meanwhile, his debut on the US PGA Tour was equally successful. In September of that year he won his first US title at the Deutsche Bank Championship, a sign of things to come for the talented young golfer. Since his debut on the US PGA Tour, Scott has focussed most of his attention on the American golf circuit. He has won at least once every season except in 2009 when his form took a brief dip. After winning eight titles in the preceding five years, Scott took a well-needed few months and returned to good form in 2010.
After winning the 2010 Singapore and Texas Opens respectively, Scott proved that he was back and ready to win. On Sunday, Adam Scott was victorious once again at the World Golf Championships.
