In the United States, Australia's Marc Leishman won his first-ever title on the PGA Tour when he lifted the trophy at the Travellers Championship on Sunday. In a final round that saw the Australian carding an impressive 62, or eight under par for the day, Leishman endured several hours of tension in the clubhouse in anticipation of a play-off against the American Charley Hoffman who shared the lead as the final round drew to a close.

However, luck was not on Hoffman's side and a double-bogey removed him from contention, leaving the trophy in the hands of Leishman. Hoffman shared second place with compatriot and former Travelers Championship winner Bubba Watson, while a host of players including South Africa's Tim Clark and Brian Davis of the UK came in third.

Expressing his excitement at winning for the first time on the Tour, as well as his great surprise at the way he won, Leishman congratulated his competitors for the excellent golf that was played on Sunday and throughout the tournament. Having clinched his first PGA title, this talented player from Down Under is sure to become a regular feature in North American golf.

On the European Tour another talented player made his maiden victory when the Englishman Danny Willett was victorious at the BMW International Open.

As the final round proceeded despite rain weather conditions, Willett saw his overnight lead evaporate as three birdies brought him level with Australia's Marcus Fraser, his nearest competitor. By the time the round was over, both players were still tied for the lead, forcing a playoff. Having given away a three-stroke lead earlier in the day, Willett regained his mettle and held out against Fraser over four holes before out-putting the Australian to lift the trophy. Willett should be watched carefully by golf fans as he carves out his career in Europe.
