In the United States, Kevin Stadler won his first-ever PGA Tour title when he lifted the trophy at the Phoenix Open on Sunday.
Stadler faced off against Bubba Watson during the final round, with both players vying for the lead after the turn. There were several tense moments on the back nine, especially at the final hole where Watson narrowly missed a birdie putt that would have sparked a playoff.
Sunday marked a reversal of fortunes for Watson, who began the final round with a two-stroke overnight lead over Stadler. The heavy-set champion treated fans to a display of birdie-making over the front nine, erasing Watson’s lead and placing himself firmly in the lead.
Despite an excellent final round performance, Watson failed to weather the storm and settled for a share of second place alongside Graham DeLaet, one stroke behind the winner.
Sunday's victory marks Stadler's first PGA Tour win - this burly, laid-back player has proven his ability to win under high-pressure conditions and may yet become a household name in American golf.
European Tour: Gallacher defends Dubai Desert Classic title in historic win
The European Tour continued its Middle Eastern leg last week, with Steven Gallacher making history when he became the first golfer to win the Dubai Desert Classic two years in a row.
Gallacher began the final round with a two-stroke lead, but an unfortunate start to the day saw his advantage erased by the third hole. Not to be discouraged, the intrepid Scotsman put his head down and climbed his way back up the leaderboard, regaining the lead on the back nine.
Argentina's Emiliano Grillo was in hot pursuit of the trophy on Sunday, turning up the heat on Gallacher until late in the day. However, age won out over youthful passion during the final holes of the tournament, with Grillo settling for second place - one stroke behind the champion.
