Golf Results - 10 September 2012

On the US PGA Tour, world number one Rory McIlroy treated golf fans to a further display of his excellent form when he won the BMW Championship in Carmel, Indiana – his second win in as many weeks.

As the final round gained momentum at Crooked Stick Golf Club, McIlroy's shots remained arrow-straight. Carving his way around the golf course, the young player from Northern Ireland carded a two-shot victory over Britain's Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson of the United States – two formidable players in their own right. Third place was shared by two more illustrious players – Tiger Woods and Robert Garrigus of the United States.

With heavy competition from some of the biggest names in international golf, McIlroy kept his cool during the final round as he focused less on his rivals and more on making excellent shots. Praised for the quality of his game and his precision putts by Tiger Woods, who was paired with the young champion during the first two rounds, McIlroy now shares the honour of winning six PGA tournaments before the age of 24 with both Woods and Jack Nicklaus. With excellent form and great focus on his side McIlroy is proving that he is the man to beat as his golf game comes into its own.

In Europe, the Swede Peter Hanson was victorious at the Dutch Open with an impressive eagle on the final green sealing his win.

The tournament was an emotional one for Hanson, who was almost forced to withdraw after his son fell ill and was hospitalised on the second day of play. However, both father and son showed a similar resolve as they weathered their respective challenges and by Sunday the younger Hanson was making a full recovery as his father set his sights on the trophy.

An impressive eagle on the final hole allowed Hanson to card a final round of 67, beating Spain's Pablo Larazzabal and Richie Ramsay of Scotland.
